First, a reminder that there will be a live blog from 1.15 here.

If you’re part of the Formpro Greyhounds Pick 6 syndicate, we’ll almost certainly have a crack as it does look particularly open.

Some really open races and a couple of races with favourites too short to back. Being a premier day with two group ones, there’s trainers and dogs from all circuits with a significant number of dogs not having had a run at Manukau.

On a day like this I’d keep the bank largely out of trouble but play the place 6 or quaddie.

Updates on the blog.

Good luck … we may need it!

Race 4 Portland Berry (2)

Portland Berry has had six starts in C3 for 4 seconds so she’s clearly been knocking on the door.  The maps looks positive – she has early speed and should be able to be on the pace.  Noise Maker in box 1 just hasn’t been up to his best which helps.  Berry has the best individual time here bar Kelly’s Girl who looks out of form so the script suggests Berry gets out early and has the power and strength to hold old.  Medusa Who (3) upset Berry last start but she is hit and miss at the start.

Race 9 Thrilling Watson (3)

One would think this is elementary.  Thrilling Watson dominates all the rating metrics and should just need a clear getaway and he should have this race at his mercy.  Too short at $1.50.  He might justify that price but it is still not great value given what could go wrong.

Race 12 Wild Kiwi (7)

A really tough way to finish the day.  The bookies have 7 of the field paying $8.50 or less.  Wild Kiwi Looks good each way value in this.  Portland Ecklund likes to move off the rail so there is a potential for a decent squeeze with Ecklund moving out and other runners heading to the rails.  Wild Kiwi pretty much holds his line and doesn’t go hard left and on top of that he looks like one of the runners with early speed so he has options to avoid any early trouble.  He’s a local so knows his way around the track and ran the 8th equal fastest time in the heats so was an emergency for the group one.  The wide draw suits as well.
